OPENING LETTER:
What causes disease and how best do we heal ourselves?
First, I feel there is way too much emphasis on symptoms and
the cure or treatment of illness. Whereas orthodox medicine is
faulted on treating with pharmaceutical drugs and surgery, we
ought to also fault alternative medicine for treating with herbs,
vitamins, diet, and numerous "healing modalities", some of which
border on the spiritual or esoteric (many of which are bogus),
instead of searching deeper and dealing with the real cause.
So what is the deeper cause of illness? Most disease begins on
the soul level. Before running to a doctor, or
running to the health store to see what herb or vitamin we
should take to take away the symptom, we should go within
and connect with our soul. Ask within, "what is the true cause,
and how can I help to heal myself? How do I need to change?"
The answer may surprise you. For instance, you may have
a sore throat, and meditating thus may lead you to realize
you missed an opportunity to say something that needed
saying. Or, you may not get an answer at all. So just meditate
for a few minutes, connecting up with your soul, allowing the
higher spiritual energies to flow through you and bring right
balance to your whole self. In fact, I would say meditation
is probably the single greatest healing tool everyone has in
their possession. Why then do people reach for a pill,
pharecuetical or natural? Probably because they have too little faith.
I would go further to say, the greatest way in which anyone and
everyone can prevent future illness, stress, anxiety, disease, is
to meditate daily.
How to do it? Simply sit comfortable, away from all distractions or
possibility of distraction. Concentrate on the center between your
eyes, and keep it there. Detach from all thoughts that rise up from
your own personality and brain. Keep bringing your attention back
to the center between your eyebrows. This will progressively create
a connection between you and your soul or higher self. This will
result in greater self realization, wholeness, spiritual growth, and
greater health and well-being on all levels. Even in the most mundane
experiences of your life, you will experience greater love, goodness,
vitality and wonderful coincidences.

Detox Essay by a Reader:
The liver and intestines have a mighty task converting our food into
new cells and energy. A large portion of our vital energy goes into
this process. By increasing our digestion and cleaning our organs,
the whole system is revitalized. Energy is freed up to address and
heal other areas. Fresh vegetables and other natural foods are loaded
with enzymes and other nutrients that promote their own energy for
digestion and revitalize the body, as opposed to de-vitalized, overcooked,
overprocessed, 'dead' food which requires your body to sacrifice energy
to try and break it down. In today's society our diets and lifestyles

A healthy liver is able to recognize thousands, probably hundreds of

chemicals. When the liver's health is compromised by chemical toxicity
and pollution from improper diet, its capability to perform this task is
greatly hindered, and the person will experience an increase in ill-health,
a greater likelihood of genetic mutations leading to diseases such as
cancer, and increased birth defects and susceptibility to disease passed
on to future generations. Keeping your body's natural detoxification and
digestive systems as healthy as possible will go a long way in preventing
future problems and creating a healthier, happier life. Again, fresh
vegetables
(and fruits to a lesser extent, since they can raise blood sugar too much)
are a great aid in revitalizing the body. Raw vegetables will increase your
bodies vital life force and aid in the digestion of other foods. (Adequate
quality protein should also not be neglected, as it rebuilds the body as
no other foods can.) Drinking adequate fresh water (between meals, not
with) allows the body to transport nutrients and waste effectively, and the
body is able to create new cells more easily. Herbal products such as

VITAMIN E AND MENTAL DECLINE
A study of more than 6,000 people over 64 showed that a high intake
of vitamin E from foods and/or dietary supplements was associated with
reduced memory loss and other cognitive dysfunctions. The study, which
began in 1993, measured changes in cognitive function of people living in
a residential community. The study, conducted over a three-year period,
surveyed participants about their usual diet including their use of vitamin
supplements. Martha Morris, principal author of the study and assistant
professor in the department of internal medicine at Rush-Presbyterian-St.
Luke's Medical Center in Chicago, presented details of her findings in
Washington at the World Alzheimer's Congress 2000. "This study is
important because most of the previous research has focused on
antioxidant nutrients as treatment therapy in persons who already have
Alzheimer's or Parkinson's disease. There is limited study on whether
dietary intake of antioxidant nutrients can protect against the disease,"
said Morris. Los Angeles physician Dr. Ray Sahelian, author of Mind
Boosters: A Guide to Natural Supplements That Enhance Your Mind,
Memory, and Mood, said: "I recommend my patients take between 30
and 200 international units of Vitamin E a day, along with 100 to 250 mg
of vitamin C. Although people do not notice an immediate effect on memory
from taking antioxidants, these vitamins serve as insurance."
