Quote of The Month:
"On the street I saw a small girl
cold and shivering in a thin dress,
with little hope of a decent meal.
I became angry and said to God:
Why did you permit this?
Why don't you do something about it?
For a while God said nothing.
That night He replied quite suddenly:
'I certainly did something about it.
-- I made you.'"

OPENING LETTER:
Hello Everyone,
We, too, can "let our hearts be broken with the
things that break the heart of God."
-- Robert Willard Pierce, founder of World Vision
Especially this time of year, during the holidays, during these
religious and spiritual festivals, I feel an increased need to reach
out and to give to those who need it the most. This year, with all
the shopping and giving and receiving, I would like to encourage
those of you who can, to give to our brothers and sisters who
are in need throughout the world.
May I suggest that you send in a donation to World Vision, perhaps
even sponsor a child? I began sponsoring a child about ten years ago
when I first heard about it. I now sponsor three children. With all the
bills I have to pay every month, it is a joy to write that check. It is a
good feeling to know that a child who wouldn't have otherwise, will
daily have food to put in his belly, a better education, better living
conditions, and medical care too.
We all live on this planet. It belongs to all of us. We all take from it
and enjoy its resources. Our family does not begin and end with the
walls of our homes, but with the boundaries of the universe. When a
child is hungry and crying half way across the world, he or she is hungry
and crying at our own table. I encourage you to reach out. Sponsor a
child. If need be, forgo something you really don't need, and instead
experience the joy of sending in a donation to World Vision or perhaps
some other organization that is helping the world's neediest.
It is time for all of us to put the words of Christ into action. They sound
great, but Christ cannot be happy with those of us who have everything
we need, and yet do not give to those who are hungry, suffering, and
crying out for our help.
"...when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled,
the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed."
--Jesus' words to a Pharisee, Luke 14:13-14
This is the season of giving, so give to those
who will appreciate it the most.

SENT IN BY A READER: IMMUNIZATIONS
To balance my last newsletter, and to further a fair and intelligent
discussion, I am including this email which I received in response to
the links I placed in November's newsletter concerning immunizations.
For the record, I am not against all immunizations. There is some good
evidence that some of them are dangerous and do have negative
future repercussions on people's health, but at the same time there is
good evidence that a lot of good has been done and lives saved by
some vaccinations. My conclusion is that we need to keep an open
mind to both sides of the argument and continue to push medical
science to come up with safer vaccines. I would always seriously
question any vaccination offered me or my child. In the Links below
I have included one concerning the flu vaccine. -- TJL
Dear Mr. Long,
I enjoy reading your newsletter. I am sorry that some were offended by
your last issue. I, personally, have developed some great difficulties with
religions that dictate that there is only one way, their way, to perceive
God and to have a personal relationship with him. Your statement that
you believe "there is only One God, and there are many ways of seeing
and voicing Him," accurately expresses my own belief.
I am a Registered Nurse working as a Public Health Nurse in a local
health department. I noted your link to an anti-vaccine website. I would
be interested in your personal stand on childhood immunizations. I am
well aware of the controversy surrounding immunizations. But, whenever
I have the opportunity to visit old churches, for some reason I am drawn
to the cemetery. My heart breaks at the number of tiny tombstones of
those who died young. Granted, some of them died from accidents or
poor sanitation. But, measles, pertussis, meningitis, etc., caused many of
those deaths. I realize that few children in this country die of those
diseases any more, but I believe that is attributable to mass immunization
programs. The immunized children protect the unimmunized by reducing
the presence of such diseases in our communities.
I do not know your age. But, at 47 myself, I am too young to have
experience with most of the vaccine-preventable diseases. (Although
I do recall the fear of HIB meningitis that was present when my son was
an infant--a disease rarely seen in this country now since vaccination is
required.) I would like to share the following with you:
In the Spring/Summer 2000 edition of VACCINATE ADULTS!
published by the Immunization Action Coalition, Dr. E. J. Gangarosa,
MD, of Emeroy University writes:
"I am one of the increasingly rare old timers who lived during the
prevaccination era. I am the second to the last of thirteen siblings, five
of whom died of vaccine-preventable diseases in infancy. Born to poor
immigrant parents, I remember well my mother's account of the causes
of their deaths--three from "la tussa forte" (pertussis) and two from
"rosolia" (measles). Even after many years had passed, she spoke of
these "morte d'angeli" (death of her angels) with a great deal of emotion.
Imagine losing not one, two, three, or four, but five babies! It was
common in the pre-vaccine era. Like our family, many families lost
several children to these diseases.
We forget. Time blurs our memories of these common tragedies of yesteryear.
I remember well, during the winter and spring of each year, hearing the
whoop of pertussis in movie theaters, school assemblies, and assorted
gatherings. Today, few have ever heard this, and those who have, forget.
I remember the summer outbreaks of polio, the crippled children who
could no longer walk or walked with limb-distorted limps. As a third-
and fourth-year medical student, I remember answering the appeals of
hospital administrators who could not find the nursing staff for special
duty tending to the needs of polio patients in "iron lungs." We forget.
I remember the awful cases of measles my own children experienced.
I remember the children with smallpox during the years my family lived
in Pakistan. I remember those who lost their sight from lesions in their
eyes. I remember those who died. We forget.
In memory of all of them, I commend IAC (Immunization Action
Coalition) and others who share Unprotected People stories to
remind those who have been spared these tragedies that most of
these illnesses are still a threat. And, they can be prevented. Easily.
We forget.
Thank you for promoting vaccines in such a unique way--by telling
the stories of the vaccine-preventable disease tragedies. So people
won't forget." --E.J. (Gene) Gangarosa, MD, MS, Professor
Emeritus, Department of International Health, Emory University
Good health and happiness to you. I look forward to your future
newsletters. Joyce in Virginia

SENT IN BY A READER: FISH & CHICKEN
I like your site, particularly the library. Also, I would like to make a
couple of comments on "A Simple Discussion on How To Eat" By
Lita Lee. If you could pass these comments on, that would be great.
Lita says, "Fish is fine if its not caught in polluted waters."
Most water is polluted now. Worse than the pollution, perhaps, is
the fact that at least 90% of fish sold in the US is now farmed fish,
raised on fish chow. This unnatural diet changes their fatty acid profile.
Another quote: "Buy ORGANIC (no chemicals, drugs or hormones),
labeled fertile, vega- fed, hormone free, etc. eggs from range-free
chickens or ducks."
What is "vega-fed"? If it means the chickens have a vegetarian diet, it
is completely incompatible with the concept of free-range. Free-range
chickens eat bugs, as they should. Therefore, their diet is not
vegetarian, and probably not "vega". -- Carol
Carol's comments are well worth hearing. I am not sure if "90%" of
our fish is now farm raised. I do know that I am shying away from
farmed raised fish as much as possible. Though sometimes you just
have to eat and not worry about all these things. I went on the net and
read about fish farming. They do put antibiotics and pesticides in the
feed, along with synthetic vitamins and other stuff. The meal itself has
soy, corn....the same old thing, like how they are raising land animals
now. This is a big mistake. People are going to have their thyroids
further suppressed. This means more weight problems, more heart
disease, more cancer. There is also a lot of damage being done to
the environment and oceans with fish farming.
And what Carol says about chickens is also true. A lot of organic
chicken is being raised on soy and corn meal. This means the fat
is polyunsaturated. I have had estrogen like effects from eating
organic chicken raised like this. It is best to find chicken that is
truly range fed. Meaning it runs around and eats insects and stuff.
Some grain is fine. -- TJL

LINKS WORTH INVESTIGATING:
I pass on links to information I think are worth everyone's time to take
a look at and to perhaps research further. (A special thanks to all you
readers who pass on links and other information to me.)
***From a reader: "Go to the Hunger Site at the UN. All you
do is click a button and somewhere in the world a hungry person
gets a meal to eat, at no cost to you. The food is paid for by corporate
sponsors (who gain advertising in the process because you see their logo).
All you do is go to the site and click on the donate food button. It takes
one second. However, you're only allowed one donation
so pass the word. http://www.thehungersite.com
***From a reader: "I heard this man on Gary Null today.
He has a lot of good information on how to put safer furniture,
rugs etc in your home. Also, a book with How To Grow Fresher
Air about 50 plants which remove harmful chemicals from your air.

***From a reader: "...I spent about 20 minutes reading parts of a
long article Gary Null wrote on psychiatry, the mental health field,
which I work in. In parts, especially the beginning, he is extremely
oversimplistic and one sided and takes too many liberties attacking the
mental health field, very one sided and condemning. But there is good
info in here, anti Prozac, anti electro convulsive therapy, the warning to
stay away from psychiatrists as much as you can if you can treat the
problems holistically. Also some good testimonials at the end.

SOME MORE HEALTH TIPS:
***Though I don't believe that every ill has an emotional
or spiritual cause, it is a good idea to explore whether or
not yours does. In any case, you can always benefit to
some extent trying the following: Try meditating on the
problem, and/or writing in your journal, or talk with a
good friend, and watch your dreams.
Sometimes our problems do have a root in the past or
in some belief or behavior. If you work hard enough
on figuring it out, you will. You can create some
real shifts in your energy and life this way.
***People living in the northern climates can experience
some depression this time of year that can include feelings
of pessimism, gloom, and low energy. It is often caused
by lack of sunlight. So be sure to get outside for a walk
in the sun around mid-day when the sun is at its strongest.
Some people with severe cases use special indoor light
boxes that simulate the sun and help provide necessary
light rays. There is also a greater need for thyroid
support this time of year.
***Another problem often experienced in the winter months
is dryness caused by lack of moisture in the air which can
cause sinus problems, irritated eyes, dry skin, a feeling of
burning or irritation in the bronchial tubes or lungs. This is
simple to remedy by using a humidifier, or placing pans of
water on or near the heat source. Desk water fountains
help too. There are even things you can buy that hang on
your radiator to evaporate water for humidity. Where
you sleep is especially important. It might be good to
use a barometer as well. The humidity level should be
around 40-50.

PRAYER REQUESTS:
+++Abby is asking us to pray for her cousin Diana's health
+++Please pray for lasting peace in the world, especially in
the Middle East
+++Pray that the world's lenders forgive the debts of the nations
that are enslaved by their ever mounting debt
+++Email me a prayer request and I will add it to my next
newsletter. Please do not forward me requests you receive
from others, such as by email. Only send me requests that
are personal to you, your family, etc. Keep them short, a few
lines is best. Give a full name if you can, a birth date and place
of residence would be good too. I will print it in the next
newsletter, and hopefully everyone will keep the requests
in their prayers.

That is it for this month. I hope you read something
here that will improve your life. Remember, I always
like to hear your feedback :)

spiritual time of year, be sure to welcome the light, love, and
guidance of God and His angels, and the spiritual brotherhood
of man into your and your family's lives. And be sure to reach
out and share with those who need it.
I will see you again in the New Year!.
