Cod Liver Oil?

Cod Liver Oil?

Cod Liver Oil? - Steve - Cleveland, Ohio [paxtoyou@yahoo.com]
Hi Dr. Long, I've been taking cod liver oil for a while now, but recently, you mentioned how you came across some research that suggests one should not use cod liver oil. Could you explain in brief detail why this is?. I thought since Cod Liver Oil had been used for eons that it would be a relatively safe supplement to use for Omega 3 and Vitamin D intake. The brand I use is Carlson's (molecularly distilled of PCB's and Mercury, etc). I know that taking a polyunsatured fat, such as cod liver oil, you should add a double dose or triple dose of natural 400 IU Vitamin E (per tablespoon of cod liver oil).. but I wasn't sure if this is what the research was concerned about, the free radical production or if there was something else involved. Thanks sincerely Dr. Long for clearing this up!.

I can not clear this up in one post. I have read the research of two doctors and researchers that I highly respect. They both make very good cases for not using fish oils. Fish oil is mostly polyunsaturated as is soy, flax, vegetable oils in general. The best oils are Olive, Ccoconut and real unsalted butter.

Ok, I understand about what you saying.. but its nothing new than the fact that its a polyunsaturated fat which can turn rancid at room temperature.. let alone in the body. I just wanted to make sure that was the only reason and not something else new here. Thanks!.

Actually, there is a lot more to it. I suggest visting www.nutri-spec.net and looking there for the newsletters on fish oil.

Ok, thanks Dr. Long!

Please read Dr Raymond Peat's article on Toxic Oils in my web Library. Yes, vitamin E helps, though there are other factors of why cod liver oil is best avoided.
