Pain From Accident Worsening
Pain From Accident Worsening

I incurred injuries in an automobile "accident" in which my vehicle was impacted from behind. Altho I was well aware that I was suffering some seemingly tolerable pain, I was not severely incapacitated, and I had been in pain before and not having experienced these types of injuries before, I took the "tough guy" approach and unknowingly assumed that it would all heal up in a week or two and I would be back to normal. Instead, the pain progressively worsened over the next few weeks, during which time I was convinced by a trusted friend that I should seek treatment with a chiropractor who was stated to do miraculous work with these types of injuries. The miraculous chiropractor just happened to be experiencing the birth of a child, followed by terminal illness of a parent, and subsequently moved out of state to be near the remaining parent. This resulted in several postponements of appointments and eventually seeking treatment of another highly recommended chiropractor, and then an orthopedic specialist, and even physical therapy to include traction. Consequently, it is now three years later, and long story short I am still regressing to seriously debilitating episodes of unbearable pain, and am involved in suing the insurance company for damages, simply to cover further medical treatment. Amazingly, what I am being told by my attorney (lately) is that since I did not immediately go the emergency room, or more accurately since I did not start medical treatment for several weeks, that I have "no case" and should settle for a $200 "settlement" rather than chance losing in court simply due to the delay in medical treatment. That is blatantly ludicrous to me. The pain from my injuries slowly went from tolerable to intolerable over a period of time and is now the worst that it has ever been, incapacitating for days at a time. The point being that I am living proof, I KNOW, that initially an injury can be considerably less painful than it will eventually evolve to become. Surely I am not the first person to experience this. Surely there are other tough guys and gals who have delayed medical treatment, logically thinking that they would get better, and then actually got worse. Does anyone know of any "precedents" of this type of situation (you would think my attorney would…) or where I might begin to research similar situations??

Hi, I heard about this lady who got an injury in her leg. Well she had pain in that one spot and it got worse and spread. Eventually it spread so badly that she was unable to move at all. Her whole body stayed in one position, curled up in a ball. She had to deal with this pain for 10 years. She had seen so many different doctors. She finally went to a pain doctor, who specifally deals with illnesses of pain. I can't remember the name of the disease, but it has something to do with the nervous system. When she injured her leg, it sent electrical signals throughout her body. Doctors and insurance companies say that this illness doesn't exist, but it really does. She is now taking medicines that are for anti-siezures, and she can walk and run and function as a normal human being again. My suggestion to you, is to see if you can go to a pain doctor, or try to find one.
